WNR C Group

The WNR C group meets on Wednesday nights for a 5:30 p.m. departure at the same location as the larger WNR A and B groups.

The weekly route is published to the Upper Valley Velo mailing list on the Monday preceding the Wednesday ride. Normally, this differs from the route used by the A and B groups. It is a good idea to review the ride and download it to a GPS device, but it is not essential for the C group.

The group consists of a mix of relative newcomers to road cycling and seasoned veterans. The ride is a no-drop ride with regrouping as required. We have a sweep who ensures that no one is dropped from the group. Generally, the pace averages between 13 mph and 15 mph, depending on the terrain.

The route chosen varies between 20 and 30+ miles. The longer rides occur when we have sufficient daylight to complete the ride before sunset. Rear blinky lights are recommended on the C rides.

A road bike with 25mm+ tires is suitable for most of the rides, but occasionally we will have sections of gravel road, and wider tires will be more comfortable. The weekly announcement will have instructions about the road conditions and tire suggestions.

The goals of the C group are to have an enjoyable ride with a moderate amount of exercise thrown in. The hills of the Upper Valley have the biggest say in what is considered moderate. In addition, you can expect to learn the art of riding in a group, communicating with other riders, and occasional pace-line practice. The routes used by the group are listed on this site and are a good introduction to the delightful scenery of the region.
