Description

With all the Saturday rain I haven't done a Joe Ranger ride yet this year.  Let's change that!

If you've never ridden it, the Joe to Cloudland section is a real gem.

Getting back to the shorter end of the range:

West Hartford -Wild Apple loop | 26.4 mi Cycling Route on Strava

and a longer option:

West Hartford -Wild Apple loop long | 38.0 mi Cycling Route on Strava

I will do the short ride if we have a split group.

8:00 Start from the West Hartford library parking lot(across from the bridge)

The current forecast is 59F, partly cloudy. Good climbing weather.

Easy Class 4 sections on Old Kings and the top of Wild Apple

Both rides start up the Quechee-West Hartford road.  (No grumbling -- a climbing start means a descending finish. :-)  )  Then onto the rollercoaster that is Joe Ranger, Bunker Hill, Old Kings Highway, and Cloudland.  Drop down Barber Hill to the Pomfret road, refuel at the Teago store, and continue down Stage.  Up the long Wild Apple climb to Skyline.

The short ride will drop down Webster Hill and then the full paved Pomfret road descent to the start.

The long ride goes down Skyline and descends the west side of Allen Hill, then Broad Brook to River road to Sharon.  The same Rt 14 to Quimby to Mitchell Brook stretch that we did last week, but then down Tigertown to Rt 14 and the start.

This is a no-drop ride.  Pace will be relaxed.  I'll ride sweep, so you won't be last. If you have to walk, I'll walk with you.  If there's a big difference in speed the fast folks can split off the front and I'll stay back.

All riders should have joined the Upper Valley Cycling Club and signed the waivers for 2025:

Riders should have food & water, spare tube/repair kit, etc.  There is a store in South Pomfret
