SMGR

The routes for the Saturday Morning Gravel Rides. It is what it says on the tin.

SMGR Sunapee Kearsarge June 2026

Town
New London
Map
Description

Mostly paved ride, road wheels with wider tires would be fine. No Class VI.

Route differs from previous years between miles 54 and 55 due to a rail trail access dispute. Leave rail trail at mile 54 by going right on Bridge Street, go left on Route 4 for about 1 mile, left onto Depot Street then left at mile 55 onto Cilleyville Road where you'll get back on the original route.

7+ mile paved climb to Mt. Kearsarge trailhead, bathrooms available there. Back down to cafe at bottom, mile 38.

SMGR Chelsea Morning

Town
Thetford
Map
Description

Mostly gravel roads, but there is adventure on Houghton Hill and there may be some other unexpected delights.  Stop in Chelsea at mile 22 for food/water

The Lou Bregroute™

Town
Norwich
Description

Shamelessly copied from a ride that Lou Bregou posted to Strava - this route features the always wonderful Downer Forest, with a sneaky connector over to Route 132.  A mile of woods trail at the top of Alger Brook Road leads to stunning views on Whitcomb Hill, followed by more adventure in UVD and the old copper mines of Strafford.

SMGR 5/2: Building Bridges from Canaan Elementary School

Town
Canaan, NH
Map
Description

This is a classic route across Province Road, past Sculptured Rocks, Newfound Lake and back over Washburn Hill. Province Road is technically a class IV road, but it is generally (no promises!) well maintained and should be in good shape. Definitely a stream crossing is involved, which is the bridge building we will do (metaphorically, don't worry!), but that section of pavé is relatively mild. The Bear Hill and Cole Hill class IV sections are more technical, but deliver a really cool adventure connecting Newfound Lake to the shoulder of Cardigan Mountain.
